At Premier Chiropractic, we offer non-surgical spinal decompression as a conservative treatment option for certain back and neck conditions.
Get Well. Move Well. Stay Well.
▌WHAT IS SPINAL DECOMPRESSION?
Spinal decompression is a non-surgical treatment that uses a specialized table to gently stretch the spine through controlled traction.
When a disc is compressed, the space around it can become reduced, which may contribute to irritation or discomfort.
The treatment is designed to decrease mechanical pressure on spinal discs, joints, and surrounding structures while promoting more comfortable movement.
▌COMMON CONCERNS
Morning Stiffness or Soreness
Waking up stiff or sore most mornings can be a sign that your joints and muscles need attention.
Numbness and Tingling
Pins-and-needles sensations or numbness in the arms, hands, legs, or feet.
Disc-Related Symptoms
Symptoms associated with conditions such as bulging or herniated discs.
Reduced Range of Motion
Difficulty bending, turning, or moving freely can limit the activities you enjoy.
Sciatica-Like Symptoms
Discomfort that follows the path of the sciatic nerve, often affecting the lower back, buttock, and leg.
Muscle Tightness and Spasms
Tightness or spasms affecting the muscles around the spine.
▌HOW DOES SPINAL DECOMPRESSION WORK?
During treatment, the table gradually creates a gentle pulling force through the targeted area of the spine, followed by periods of relaxation.
By gently stretching the spine, decompression is intended to temporarily reduce pressure within the treated area and create more space around the spinal structures.
The controlled movement of the table also allows the muscles surrounding the spine to relax rather than having to actively resist the stretch. Treatment is adjusted based on the patient's condition and the area being treated.

▌FAQ
Spinal decompression is designed to be gentle and controlled. Many patients find treatment comfortable. Your settings can be adjusted based on your condition and comfort level.
Spinal decompression may help some patients with herniated or bulging discs by gently reducing pressure on the affected area and supporting more comfortable movement. Whether decompression is appropriate depends on your symptoms, the location and severity of the disc condition, and your examination findings.
Sciatica can sometimes occur when a spinal disc or other structure in the lower back irritates or puts pressure on a nearby nerve. When the underlying cause is appropriate, spinal decompression may help reduce pressure around the affected area and support more comfortable movement as part of a conservative care plan.
The number and frequency of spinal decompression treatments can vary from person to person. Your recommended treatment plan will depend on your symptoms, condition, health history, examination findings, and how you respond to care.
The doctor will evaluate your progress throughout your care and make adjustments to your treatment plan based on your individual needs.
Not everyone is a candidate for spinal decompression. An evaluation allows our doctors to review your symptoms, health history, and examination findings to determine whether decompression may be appropriate for you.
Every patient responds differently to care. Some people may notice changes during the early stages of treatment, while others may require more time. The doctor will monitor your progress and adjust your care plan as needed.
Spinal decompression and chiropractic adjustments are different approaches that can complement one another. Spinal decompression uses a specialized table to apply controlled traction to a targeted area of the spine, with the goal of reducing pressure on the spinal discs and surrounding structures. Chiropractic adjustments focus on improving the movement and function of specific spinal joints.
In some cases, our doctors may recommend both as part of a personalized care plan. Decompression can focus on the disc and surrounding structures, while chiropractic care can help address joint movement and spinal function. Using both approaches may allow your care plan to address different factors that may be contributing to your symptoms.
